You’ve probably seen all the videos about things going bad during a hotel or motel stay. When you decide to spend time at a hotel or a motel, you are accepting being exposed to germs, viruses, and bacteria that you don’t know of. Of course, you should expect basic maintenance and hygiene procedures but the truth is that your motel room would still show a certain level of contamination.
People have different ethics and manners. Some people leave the place as clean as they found it. Others actually don’t think twice about whoever is going to use the room after they leave. However, there are a few things that can minimize your risk when you spend time in a motel room. Here are 5 things that you should avoid touching:
- The Drinking Glasses Near the Sink:
These are not meant to be used for drinking water. You can keep your toothbrush in one or avoid using it altogether. When you flush the toilet, there are little splashes of water that can fly in the air and land on different surfaces in your bathroom, including those glasses. Then you come to drink in one, you get the picture.
Before touching the phone, make sure that you wipe it with a disinfectant. People tend to touch the room phone after leaving the bathroom or while eating. And your motel housekeeper will not pay attention to cleaning it after the departure of the last guest. Make sure that you wipe it clean.
This might be sad news, but the truth is that most of the time; the housekeeper will change the bed sheets and only give the pillow a fluff before putting it back on the bed. You can try to smell the pillow before sleeping on it. If it doesn’t smell fresh and clean, you can ask to have it replaced. Or you can bring your own pillowcase with you.
- TV Remote Control:
This is another item that people touch without making sure that their hands are clean. According to health specialists, doctors were able to find tons of bacteria, germs and body fluids on the TV remote. You can try to wipe it clean using a disinfectant before using it for the first time. Or you can put it in a plastic bag to make sure that there is a barrier between the remote control and your hands.
- Coffee Machine:
It is probably a good gesture if your motel room has a coffee machine. But the truth is that is machine might be extremely dirty and unhealthy to use. Old coffee residue can be a good environment for the growth of mold, mildew, and bacteria. You should bring your own coffee on the go instead.
These easy tips will ensure that you enjoy a pleasant stay in your motel room. Make sure that you keep the place clean for other guests who will use the same facility.
