Cairns, Queensland

A wonderland bursting with sun, sand, and sea! Cairns is an essential stop when visiting Australia’s tropical attractions. Found in the far north of Queensland, it is the doorway to the many natural wonders on offer. Not sure where to start? Follow my guide for a spectacular trip you won’t soon forget!

1.      The Great Barrier Reef

Great Barrier Reef
This may be an obvious option on the agenda, but it needs to be said! As one of the seven wonders of the world, it’s safe to say that the Great Barrier Reef is sure to knock your socks off when you visit! As it stretches out 344,400 square kilometres, there is a lot of reefs to cover, with around 3,000 reef spots to choose from. Tour boating is by far the easiest way to visit but have a look at the reef spots your tour is travelling to! Some reef spots, while beautiful, can be overpacked with tourists, whereas others can be a unique location with plenty of private moorings.

2.      Daintree Rainforest

The Daintree Rainforest
Immerse yourself in a world of green! Home to captivating plants, unique animals, and an array of natural wonders. Lace-up your walking shoes and enjoy a day trekking through the thick rainforest, climbing mountains or plunging into waterfalls. The Daintree Rainforest is one of the oldest rainforests on earth and is home to a significant percentage of the entire country’s wildlife!

3.      Fitzroy Island

Fitzroy Island
Escape the crowds for a day and visit a picture-perfect tropical island! Fitzroy Island offers the best of both worlds, with plenty of shallow shores swarming with the reef, or lush greenery covering the land! Regardless of whether you’re after adrenaline-pumping adventure, or indulge at a tropical resort, Fitzroy Island has got your covered!

4.      Atherton Tablelands

Atherton Tablelands
Take a tour out of Cairns city and drive out to the impressive scenery of the Atherton Tablelands! Sprinkled with waterfalls, historic landmarks, lookout points, and plenty of walking paths, you can get lost within the wilderness. My day adventure with 1 Day Atherton Tablelands Tour I went to exceptional attractions such as the famous Millaa Millaa waterfalls, the incredible Curtain Fig Tree, which is known as the biggest tree in Queensland, as well as a number of fantastic photos opt lookouts!
