Enjoy the stunning riverside region that Brisbane is famous for!

South Bank

South Bank is the place to be after the sunsets for the evening. Home to an endless collection of fabulous restaurants, bars, shops, and everchanging events. Not sure where to start? Follow our guide on the greatest things to do at Brisbane Southbank and find out why this city spot attracts over 11 million visitors every year!

The Arbour

To see all of what South Bank has to offer, taking the 1-kilometre track along the Arbour walkway is a good place to start. The walkway starts in Cultural Forecourt and features 443 curving galvanised steel posts along its route, with most covered in gorgeous purple bougainvillea flowers. The path lets visitors see the amazing beauty of the bank, weaving about the grassy areas and bustling restaurant regions. No matter what time you head along this path, you’ll not be disappointed!

Wheel of Brisbane

See this stunning city from the clouds when you hop on this 60 metre Ferris wheel! The Wheel of Brisbane was first built to celebrate the 20th anniversary of World Expo 88, but it remained well after the celebrations and has become a staple in the city’s skyline. The entire ride lasts around 15 minutes and offers 360-degree views of the surrounding area. The gondola even caters for nibbles and champagne, so you have two ways to enjoy the high life on this Ferris Wheel!

Markets

One of the best attractions along South Bank is the everchanging stalls of fashion, food, and more! Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the Collective Markets set up shop and offer an endless range of glorious Knick knacks! The markets are run by the local community and offer both international treats and local goodies! Purchase all your gifts for your family and friends back home, even getting a couple things for yourself! Live music hangs through the air, and delicious food smells drift from a number of bustling stores!

Nepal Peace Pagoda

Another great relic from the Expo ’88, Nepal Peace Pagoda is one of the most significant heritage attractions in the city. It is the only international exhibit remaining after the Expo, featuring glorious traditional architecture for a meditation area. Many locals come here for a morning relaxation and meditation, a perfect way to wake up with the sun!

Restaurants and Cafes

South Bank is famous for its grub, with its restaurants winning numerous awards and its bars flooded with both locals and tourists. The stunning view of the Brisbane River makes for a perfect backdrop for these venues, with many having an outdoor section along the riverside.

Streets Beach

Instead of heading out to the beach spots of waterfalls, simply stay in the inner city of Brisbane and enjoy their manmade stretch of sand. This is the only man-made beach in all of Australia, nestled in the bustling region of South Bank. Spend your day sunbaking in the soft sand, swimming in the glorious blue waters, or discover the area in nearby the wooden paths.
