Adelaide is the mysterious capital city of South Australia that not many people actually know a lot about.

Often likened to a rural town rather than a capital city, the size of Adelaide certainly has its perks. Generally cheaper than other Australian cities, Adelaide is home to great restaurants, a laid-back beach lifestyle and an array of entertaining activities and events held through out the year.

Festival culture and sporting events

The famous Adelaide festival season begins in January and continues through to March, bringing with it, an array of exciting and colourful events such as the Womad Music Festival, the world-famous car race festival, the Clipsal 500, and Adelaide Fringe Festival. There is so much to see and do in Adelaide with a special event, market, or festival happening almost every week.

Vineyards and wineries

Although it is not far from the hustle and bustle of the city, you will feel like you are a world away when you step into the magic of the Barossa Valley. Known for being one of the most prestigious winery regions in the world, you certainly will not be disappointed when visiting. The Barossa Valley is more than 160 years old and boasts more than 150 wineries and 80 cellar doors for you to explore and tempt your tastebuds. Not only is it teeming with wineries, but the region also boasts some of Australia’s finest restaurants, a world of delicious food and wine awaits you in this world-renowned and picturesque area of South Australia.

Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is South Australia’s iconic nature filled oasis that is located off the coast of Adelaide. Covering over a third of the island is protected nature reserves and parklands which are home to a huge population of iconic native wildlife. Admire Australian sea lions, seals, kangaroos, koalas and so much more while adventuring and exploring the island. Not only does it have an insane amount of wildlife, but the island has also over 540 kilometres of pristine coastline and picturesque views in every direction. Highlights include the Remarkable Rocks look out point and the Admirals Archway, where you can watch the friendly fur seals down below you.

Although Adelaide is not as well-known as other big Australian cities like Sydney and Melbourne, it sure does pack a punch. The best part is that it generally isn’t flooded with tourists and it is rare that you will have to wait in line to see something in Adelaide.
